POWER OF PERCEPTION

Celebrating Life’s little things

By Nellie Martínez-Andrade, shades Magazine contributor

They say perception is everything.

I agree.

I was feeling overworked and stretched beyond relief. I just finished two lengthy conference calls for work and in between the next one, I’m unloading the dishwasher, vacuuming the living room, dining room and hallway.

Instead of feeling burdened I changed my mind to say:

I GET to have lengthy conference calls because I’m one of few people that are working from home because my employer values its employees.

I GET to unload the dishwasher because I’m fortunate enough to have a working dishwasher and dishes from feeding my large family.

I GET to vacuum the living room, dining room and hallway because I’m blessed enough to have a job that pays me to afford our beautiful home for me and my large family.

I GET to fulfill my servant attitude by providing a clean, organized and sanitized home for my family by performing these mindless and mundane chores.

I am abundantly blessed and highly favored to be able to do all these things. As my perspective changed I experienced the vacuum suddenly was lighter and I felt such a huge sense of accomplishment.

God IS good.
