Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of \u201cNegro History Week,\u201d the brainchild of noted historian\u00a0Carter G. Woodson<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and other prominent African Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s theme is theme, \u201cAfrican Americans and Labor<\/strong>,<\/a>\u201d focuses on “the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds \u2013 free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, vocational and voluntary \u2013 intersect with the collective experiences of Black people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
