<\/div>\n\n\n\n

“The stakes are too high for government<\/em><\/strong>
to be a spectator sport.”<\/em> <\/strong>

Lucille “Big Mama ” Allen would\u2019ve nodded in agreement, adding, \u201cBaby, you can\u2019t just sit on the porch and watch the storm. You better get up and do something about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means we must do more than just vote and boycott \u2014 we must stay engaged, speak out, and demand that democracy serves the people, not the powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big Mama knew something about making change happen. My grandmother wasn\u2019t just a voice in the kitchen \u2014 she was a force in the community. She believed in holding leaders accountable and never let injustice slide. She taught us that real power isn\u2019t just in boycotts \u2014 it\u2019s in the sustained pressure we apply through protest, lobbying and community collaboration to remove unqualified leaders and push for the changes we need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We see the signs today: Illegal government maneuvers, attacks on voting rights and leaders who serve special\u00a0 groups instead of the people. We cannot sit back and allow democracy to be dismantled while we watch from the sidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. We must protest<\/strong>. \u2014 Not just in the streets, but in courtrooms, city halls and school board meetings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. We must lobby<\/strong>. \u2014 We need to commit to demanding policies that protect our rights and calling out those who try to take them away.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. We must collaborate<\/strong>. \u2014 By uniting across communities, across issues and across political lines to stop the erosion of our democracy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Big Mama would say, \u201cIf they ain\u2019t listening, make \u2018em listen. And if they refuse, replace \u2018em.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We don\u2019t just have the right to change the game \u2014 we have the responsibility. It\u2019s time to cross all the aisles, link arms and fight back. The stakes are simply too high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
