The best revenge \u2013 let\u2019s call it a \u201cteaching moment\u201d \u2013 is co-writing a song, performing it live with your band, and having it go viral as the year\u2019s biggest, loudest anti-ism anthem. With a fresh signing by Epitaph Records and more than a million YouTube views today, Asian American-Latinx female punk band The Linda Lindas have extended beyond their original Southern California following before any of the members turned 18.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Notable:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>Their 2020 song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=v4-kkzOtLeI\">Vote!<\/a>\u201d written by band member Eloise Wong. While the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/health\/lizzo-says-fat-people-still-getting-short-end-body-positivity-movement\/\">body positivity movement<\/a>&nbsp;seems to have been co-opted by women of all sizes, Lizzo advocates for squashing the continuous bullying and shaming of big girls, asking people to remember that the movement was created by \u201cbig women, big brown and Black women, queer women.\u201d You may not know it from her sassy funk and rap, but the multiple Grammy Award winner is also a classically trained flutist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Notable:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Twenty million people are following her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vm.tiktok.com\/TTPd6Dk6XP\/\">TikTok<\/a>&nbsp;videos embracing her food choices and fashion. The&nbsp;<em>Time<\/em>&nbsp;magazine story naming her 2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/entertainer-of-the-year-2019-lizzo\/\">Entertainer of the Year<\/a>. That\u2019s what makes Mickey Guyton\u2019s story so remarkable. In 2011, she became the genre\u2019s first Black female artist signed to a major label, UMG\u2019s Capitol Records Nashville division. Last year, she became the first Black female artist to perform at the Academy of Country Music awards. What kind of artist has mainstream publication&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/noname-room-25-profile-724456\/\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;calling her \u201cone of the best rappers alive,\u201d indie blog&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/features\/lists-and-guides\/best-songs-2021\/\"><em>Pitchfork<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;listing her \u201cRainforest\u201d as one of best songs of the year, and artist-based&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotnewhiphop.com\/noname-cancels-her-upcoming-album-factory-baby-news.144091.html\">HotNewHipHop<\/a>&nbsp;saying she is \u201cone of the most captivating and powerful voices poets in hip-hop today\u201d? While it\u2019s uncertain if Noname will ever make music again after her Instagram story post in December announcing her industry frustrations and need for a break, send her strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Notable:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Her 2016 spoken-word, neo-soul mixtape \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.app.goo.gl\/G5aPB3a9FEjMJBZK8\">Telefone<\/a>\u201d is masterful storytelling about life experiences. Her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/noname\">Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;feed, with more than 600,000 followers. The Malaysian-born Muslim artist who resides in Los Angeles today has been a role model for finding and maintaining your identity. She also has become a leading spokesperson for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/4350110\/yuna-modest-clothing-hijab-liberating\/\">modest fashion<\/a>, resisting the pressure of an industry that increasingly profits from hypersexualizing young women. In this song, she dismisses all the social media haters who criticize her for wearing a hijab, keeping her neck covered and not smoking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Notable:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=UxC7k1-xywA\">Stay Where You Are<\/a>\u201d released in 2020 after the pandemic broke and shelter in place was recommended by health organizations worldwide. Recruited at age 14 by SM Entertainment, the largest K-pop entertainment company at the time, she eventually debuted in South Korea with the girl group&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=T0Kbo38uUnE\">f(x)<\/a>&nbsp;in 2009 as lead rapper. Her androgyny \u2014 short hair, long shorts instead of a mini-skirt \u2014 made her stand out. After going solo in 2015 and now as an adult, her advocacy for women is what makes her stand out as she publicly brings attention to eating disorders, sexual harassment and toxic beauty standards in the industry.
